Abstract (may include machine translation)
During the Second World War, more than 10,000 Soviet citizens were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union - including 90 women. In the decades that followed, the Soviet state spared no effort or money to preserve the memory of its heroes: films, books, exhibitions, memoirs, and a plethora of other works were produced to preserve the canonised, official memory of war heroes.
