N2 - The present paper summarizes the regulatory framework of biobanks in the Czech Republic and focuses on the collection and analysis of legislation and regulation regarding the establishment, management and functioning of classical and forensic biobanks. Classical biobanks will be discussed in Part I, whereas the regulatory background of forensic biobanks invoking legal issues of different nature will be covered separately in Part II. The present analysis does not address either the international standards, or European Union pieces of legislation, but it should be borne in mind that these are binding on the Czech Republic being a European Union Member State.
