N2 - On June 10, 2014, a group of eminent international scholars, archivists and museum directors, and professors committed to educating about the Holocaust through innovative teaching projects, as well as individuals who have undertaken bold and creative commemorative projects, met to discuss the future of Holocaust education. The conference took place at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. The conference title, “The Future of Holocaust Memorialization: Confronting Racism, Antisemitism, and Homophobia through Memory Work”, is the name of a working group and research collective that came into existence a year and a half before the conference took place. Through a series of coincidences and chance encounters, the initial members of this working group found themselves working together on collaborative projects or sought each other out at conferences and other venues due to common interests. The original eight members from five different countries decided it would be helpful to think critically across borders about the future of Holocaust remembrance and education, and to do so in an interdisciplinary way.
