Abstract (may include machine translation)

During the past decade, Romania’s media market has been expe-riencing massive shifts, particularly when it comes to its funding models. As elsewhere, these changes were triggered to a large degree by technological advances. The financial health of Romania’s media was also affected by local factors, including business practices, changes in government spending and media consumption patterns. This article describes the key trends in journalism funding in Romania in recent years and takes stock of the impact that the Covid-19 crisis is having on the industry’s financial health to under-stand the salient financial threats and opportunities that the country’s in-dependent journalism is likely to face in the near future. © 2021, Liverpool University Press.
