Abstract (may include machine translation)
This chapter reports on the qualitative research methodology employed for the GECM project, aiming to inform the development and effectiveness of the GECM as a tool and a process for promoting change and gender equality across different educational, political and socio-cultural contexts. The purpose, challenges and limitations of the research conducted in secondary schools in the UK, Hungary and Italy are discussed, and information is provided about sampling, ethical and translation issues, data analysis and data presentation. Our analysis, which is informed by two theoretical paradigms, the gender regime and intersectionality, investigates how school culture and regime as well as intersecting inequalities of gender, ethnicity/culture, religion and sexuality operate in different geopolitical contexts and influence the implementation and promotion of the GECM.
