Abstract (may include machine translation)

Support for nationalist populism, economic isolationism, and demagoguery across Europe is likely to increase especially in Central and Eastern Europe where the roots of democracy are still relatively shallow, Russian influence is considerable and gaining, and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) arguably faces its stiffest challenges. Electoral results from some of the countries show that citizens of Europe’s youngest democracies are already looking for more radical solutions to the region’s challenges.
