A tanulmányban négy kérdésre keresi a szerző a választ. Az első: reális veszély-e, hogy Magyarország nem kerül be az első bővítési körbe? A második: az EU 1999 óta meginduló reformlendülete létrehozta-e a tíz vagy akár tizenkét taggal történő bővíthetőség esélyét? A harmadik témakörben az EU-n belüli nyitott kérdéseket, nem utolsó sorban ezeknek a bővítés még elfogadható költségeire gyakorolt hatását elemzi. Végül a bővülési folyamat hosszabb távú kilátásait és az ezzel kapcsolatos néhány főbb feladatot tekinti át.
The author seeks, in his article, the answers to four questions: Firstly: Is there a real danger of Hungary’s exclusion from the first round of enlargement? Secondly: Has the EU’s post-1999 reform-drive made possible an expansion of the Union to include ten or even twelve new members? Thirdly, he analyses unresolved matters within the EU, including the effect of such matters on the (to date acceptable) costs of enlargement. Fourthly, he reviews the long-term prospects of the enlargement process, as well as several priority tasks associated with this process.
