Abstract (may include machine translation)
The report of the first excavation campaign conducted at the Basilica of San Severo in Classe in the summer of 2006. The investigations were carried out as part of a European "Culture 2000" project, which involved the universities of Bologna, Barcelona, Budapest, Leicester and the RavennAntica Foundation. Excavations were carried out inside the Late Antique Basilica (6th century) and in the immediately adjacent areas. The precise dating of many building interventions, including the foundation of the Basilica and the adjacent mausoleums, was thus ascertained with certainty; it was also possible to derive important information about the area located north of the monument, where numerous structures related to different eras came to light.
This is the first chapter in a series of publications dedicated to the dissemination of excavation data collected in eleven years of investigations (2006- 2016), which have shed light on the many transformations of this monumental complex over the centuries: from the Roman villa to the Late Antique Basilica, up to the Benedictine and then Cistercian monastery.
