Abstract (may include machine translation)

On site soil gas measurements complement soil and ground water inspection, and effectively support the design and operation of monitoring systems. The in situ measurement of soil gas composition characterizes the intensity of soil microbial life at agricultural sites, and allows detection of volatile contaminats at polluted sites. The technique is also applicable in waste deposit sites to detect depony gases, and for quality control of composting sites, biological decomposition beds. In the scope of the research and development activities of project MONTABIO, existing elements of soil contamination monitoring have been expanded by certain elements of a complex on site soil gas measurement. Based on practical experience gained in numerous determinations, the measurement method was further developed through purposive device acquisition. In accordance with the project objectives, soil gas measurements provided rapid, accurate and last not least economically obtainable information, allowing more accurate and thourough characzerization of the test sites – should those be of industrial (contaminated) or agricultural type.
