 This paper addresses the challenges of Hungarian economic strategy in the post‐2010 period. It analyzes the constraints and options, as well as the reaction and interaction of various players on the international arena, that have shaped outcomes. Beyond the discussion of the 15 months of futile negotiations with the IMF, issues of how Hungary fits, with its unorthodox economic policies, in the changing architecture of the European Union, moving towards ever more federalism in its crisis management.
