Abstract (may include machine translation)
The detailed social history of the Hungarian working class in the 1950s, during the period of Hungary's rapid industrialization, is still a task for future Hungarian historiography. Two large-scale surveys proved to be particularly valuable source material for this research, providing a true insight into the actual living conditions of working people in the 1950s. In 1953 and 1958, on the orders of the Politburo of the Party of Hungarian Toilers, comprehensive studies were carried out on the state of the working class in Hungary because of the unmistakable accumulation of problems. It was my aim to exhaust these reports as sources and to analyze the information that interested me.
