This short article is a response to Lenka Dražanová’s text ‘Austria’s snap election: Is the Freedom Party (FPÖ) going to fade away?’ (https://euideas.eui.eu/2019/10/04/austrias-snap-election-is-the-freedom-party-fpo-going-to-fade-away-2/). I argue that in order to understand the rise and fall of the far right (and to fight), we have to deal with the underlying social and economic causes of this phenomenon.
