Abstract (may include machine translation)
This synthesis brings together for the first time the domestic history and theory of this political tradition and social philosophy. The monograph is divided into three parts: the first part uses a systematic analytical grid to characterize the essential features of anarchist theory and to distinguish the main types of anarchism. The second part reviews the social base of anarchism, the anarchist currents among the working class, the peasantry, the intelligentsia, the aristocracy and the artists, and international trends. The concluding chapter, The Legacy of Anarchism, takes stock of anarchist influences between the two world wars and in the opposition to late state socialism. It explores the orientations of anarchist groups around the change of regime and the anarchist features of new social movements.
