Kurt-Rothschild-Preis

Prize: Prize, award or honor

Description

The Karl Renner Institute and the SPÖ Parliamentary Club award the Kurt Rothschild Prize for Economic Journalism. The prize commemorates the great achievements of the Austrian economist, whose work had a lasting impact on science, politics and society in Austria. In particular, his time in exile – as a socialist of Jewish origin, Rothschild was forced to flee Austria after Hitler's invasion – contributed to Kurt Rothschild's enduring commitment to the social dimension of economics as a science.
The prize recognizes scholars whose work has achieved both academic recognition and entered the public debate. In selecting the winners, the jury primarily looks for innovative answers to current economic and socio-political challenges in the spirit of Kurt Rothschild. Rather than reproducing neoclassical tenets, the prize seeks to place economic questions in a broader context.
Anna Schwarz was awarded for her work “In the Shadow of the Household: How Household Dynamics Shape Gender-Specific Working Poverty in Europe”.
