For 20 years, Dr. Oksana Sarkisova has been the driving force behind the International Verzio Human Rights Film Festival. Her unwavering dedication, professional leadership, and recognized expertise have been instrumental in establishing and expanding the festival. The festival, which attracts thousands of attendees from around the globe each year, has become a significant public event. It champions democratic values and visual literacy, both of which are increasingly vital, particularly in the context of Hungary. Her investment of personal time and effort over the past two decades is a testament to her deep commitment to the CEU community, human rights filmmaking, and the principles of liberal democracy. Through her work with Verzio, she has embodied CEU’s mission and inspired others to do the same. Her recent decision to step down from the directorship of the festival marks the end of an era.
