    Research interests

    Zsuzsanna Árendás is a Research Affiliate at the Democracy Institute and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Sciences (HUN-REN CSS). She earned her PhD at the University of Pécs in 2008. Her research focuses on human mobility, social inequalities, ethnicity, citizenship, and belonging, with an emphasis on marginalized and racialized groups. She studies labour migration, migration management, and international student mobilities in illiberal contexts. Her work also explores child and youth mobilities and school integration, examining structural conditions like migrant responsibilization and everyday othering in education. She has led and contributed to several European research projects (FP7, H2020) and currently leads the Expect_Art project on decoloniality and cultural literacy in Hungarian schools. At the Democracy Institute, she contributes to the RAISE project on school segregation of the Roma children. Zsuzsanna regularly teaches on migration and social inequality and has published widely in academic journals and edited volumes.
