Viola Lászlófi joined CELAB in 2022 as a junior research fellow in the ERC research project, Taming the European Leviathan: The Legacy of Post-War Medicine and the Common Good. She read History at École des Hautes des Sciences Sociales and Eötvös Lotánd University and Psychology at the University of Debrecen. She is currently a PhD candidate working towards a degree in the joint program of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris) and Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest). Since 2015, she has been conducting research on the role of physicians and medical knowledge and power in post-war Hungary. Her research focuses on the forms of professional, political and social autonomy of the medical profession on the different levels of Hungarian society in the state socialist period and the role of intercultural knowledge transfer and practices. Examining the changing political and professional norms of healthcare (through, for example, the problem of abortion, the transformation of medical education and the work of medical ethics committees), her works aims to highlight the extent to which the implementation of ideological expectations and the global transformation of medical knowledge were realized in everyday practices of care.
