Research interests

Sharon has a PhD in linguistics from Lancaster University in the UK and an MA in TESOL and applied linguistics from the University of Leicester, also in the UK. She has taught English for academic purposes and academic literacies at Waseda University in Japan, Tomáš Batā Univesity in the Czech Republic, the European University Institute in Italy, and several universities in the UK. As a senior lecturer at CEU in Vienna, she teaches academic writing and offers consultations to BA, MA and PhD students. Her research interests include second language writing and the ways that institutional and social contexts interact with professional academic writing. Her work has been published in journals such as Teaching in Higher Education, Higher Education Research and Development, and Writing & Pedagogy. She is editor of the recent Routledge volume Novice LGBTQ+ Scholars’ Practices in Writing for Scholarly Publication, and co-editor of the Springer volume Cognitive and Educational Psychology for TESOL: A Guide for Practitioners.
