Research interests
His research focuses on learning and memory from computational, algorithmic/representational, and neurobiological perspectives. He also maintains an active interest in the computational functions of neural oscillations, particularly those occurring in the hippocampus and neocortex. From computational and algorithmic perspectives, his research group applies Bayesian approaches to statistical inference and reinforcement learning to characterize the goals and mechanisms of learning in terms of normative principles and behavioral outcomes. The group also performs dynamical systems analyses of reduced biophysical models to understand how these mechanisms map onto cellular and network models. His team collaborates closely with experimental neuroscience groups, conducting in vitro intracellular recordings, multi-unit recordings in behaving animals, and human psychophysical and fMRI experiments.
In addition to being affiliated with the Department of Cognitive Science at CEU, he is a Professor of Computational Neuroscience at the Computational and Biological Learning Lab, Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge.
