She holds a Ph.D. in law from the Faculty of Law, University of Groningen (Netherlands), and works as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the CEU Democracy Institute. She has extensive experience as a researcher, having worked across a range of sectors, including academia, non-governmental organisations, law firms, and professional associations.
Elena has dedicated a significant portion of her research to exploring the interpretation and application of the principle of good neighbourliness in both international law and EU law contexts. Her forthcoming monograph, titled ‘The Principle of Good Neighbourliness in International Law and EU Law,’ is expected to be published by Hart Publishing in 2026. This work examines the legal framework surrounding this crucial principle, with a particular focus on the rule of law challenges associated with international law and the EU's enlargement policy.
