Research of Azzurra Ruggeri focuses on how children and adults actively search for information when making decisions, drawing causal inferences, and solving categorization tasks. She examines how search strategies, like any other strategies, are not always equally effective, as their usefulness and performance depend on the characteristics of the problem at hand. She is particularly interested in how adaptive children’s and adults’ information-search strategies are, and how sensitive and responsive they are to the structure of tasks. Her work emphasizes how actively seeking information, generating relevant information, and focusing on what is considered most important can influence learning, understanding, and the quality of explanations.
