https://at-ceu.studyguide.timeedit.net/modules/GENS5501?type=COREThe main aim of the Workshop is to help you in the process of writing your MA thesis. Because of the number of students, for the Workshop you'll be divided (purely according to scheduling convenience) into 2 groups, which will meet in separate sessions. In the course of the Workshop, each student will present a (draft) thesis chapter, together with a (draft) table of contents, which will help the other students in the group contextualize that chapter and its function in the thesis as a whole. All students in the group will read and offer feedback on the chapter; two students will also be chosen to present more detailed, written feedback on each chapter. Please note that this (draft) chapter MUST be a research-based, empirical, or analytical chapter - i.e., a chapter in which you analyze some of the research material you have collected. You may NOT present the thesis Introduction or Conclusion, or its methodological chapter, theoretical framework, or literature review. We assume that you have been working on this chapter with your Supervisor (always a good idea...).During the workshop, one 50 minute session will be dedicated to each student's work. Your supervisor will attend your session; the workshop schedule will be designed to make this possible. For each such session, the student will make a brief (max. 10 minutes) presentation, then your peers, your supervisor, and I as workshop coordinator will offer feedback and suggestions.N.B.: This is a writing workshop. This means that the whole group must read all the chapters, and that everybody is expectedI' to give feedback in each session. In this way, you will all make a real contribution to one another's work, and each of you will receive helpful questions and suggestions for your own chapter. Such close reading of other people's works-in-progress should also help clarify fundamental issues of writing that all scholars share, such as how to properly structure a chapter, how to present evidence effectively, and how to construct an argument so that your audience can successfully grasp it.SchedulingThe Workshop will take place from in the Spring term. We will send you the final, detailed schedule as soon as it is made. Students will be divided into groups, and a workshop schedule made that will allow supervisors to attend.
