Aim & Background

The Thesis courses at the Department of Environmental Sciences accompany students in the process of planning for, executing, and documenting the research for their graduate theses. In the Fall term, the requirements for a thesis at the department are introduced and we work towards the thesis proposal which must be submitted by the end of the term. In the Winter term, the focus is on research design, including research ethics considerations, and structuring the thesis, focusing on working towards the presentation of a convincing research design at the thesis retreat in the Spring term. The Thesis courses focus on the formal and technical aspects of the thesis; matters of content are discussed with the (potential) supervisor. The overarching aim of Thesis I is to support students in developing their graduate thesis proposal. To this end, students willlearn about departmental requirements with regard to form and content of the thesis,receive guidance in finding a supervisor for their thesis,develop their thesis proposal.
