Focusing on interventions designed to improveintergroup relations-such as peace-building, conflict resolution, prejudicereduction, and reconciliation-we examine case studies from diverse cultural andgeopolitical contexts. Students will critically analyze the design,implementation, and impact of these efforts, gaining a deeper understanding ofhow social science can contribute to meaningful social change globally.We will explore a range ofintervention strategies, including intergroup contact, empathy training,intergroup dialogue, cross-categorization, and the use of moral exemplars.These approaches are applied to contexts of violent conflict, ethnic and religioushostility, historical injustice, and political division. Case studies will spana wide array of settings-including India, Iraq, Lebanon, Israel, Rwanda,Bosnia, Hungary, Germany, Poland, and the United States-highlighting howcontext shapes both the challenges and the possibilities for socialtransformation.
