Course

Aim & Background

Photography is often treated in the social sciences as tool of illustration, a way to show what has been written. This course challenges that view. We approach photography as an active method of inquiry, a mode of data collection, and a rigorous way to create knowledge. Suitable for any level of previous visual experience, the course connects artistic, documentary practice to academic research. We move beyond 'how to take a picture' to practice 'how to see socially.' Through workshops, discussions, fieldwork, and personal projects, you will learn to use the camera to reflect on social phenomena and construct visual narratives that support or challenge your academic work.
