RESEARCH DESIGNB.A. level course, CPS.Credit value: 2 credits (4 ECTS credits)Lectures: QS C-419 (Thursday, 17.40-18.40)Discussion sessions: QS B-421 (Friday, Session 1: 10.40-11.40 - Session 2: 11.50-12.50)Prof. Daniel Monterescu (Office Hours: TBA)[email protected] Kaan Kubilay Asar, Teaching Assistant (Office Hours: Fridays 13.00-15.00)[email protected] The "Research Design" course will help you transform social problems into sociological questions. Throughout twelve weeks you will develop your research project from questions into a well-structured research proposal. Readings, in-class activities, and assignments specifically tailored for research design will focus on how to identify a topic and question, how to determine the appropriate disciplinary specializations, consider which data and methods are most appropriate, and how and where to find relevant secondary literature. Through lectures, readings, and smaller discussion sections, students will learn to plan their project, choose possible research methods, and consider the benefits and limits of particular methods and data. Students should reflect and bring their own ideas about possible projects. Some may already come with a good idea of their project, others may still be uncertain about what exactly they want to explore. This seminar will help you identify interesting and researchable topics. It will assist you in refining and rebuilding research projects.
