The course is split into four sections. The first section covers the incentives of international migrants and native citizens, the political dynamics of immigration policy and international cooperation on migration. The second section looks at the politics of emigration and contemporary approaches to citizenship and integration, once migrants have become settled. The third section examines the effects of international migration on sending states, receiving states and the global flow of goods and capital. The final section covers the human rights aspects of migration, including refugees, asylum seekers, undocumented immigrants and border control. The aim of the course is to equip students with necessary knowledge and skills to conduct independent research and build on the current state of knowledge in the field and in doing so, promote research on international migration from a political economy perspective.
