https://at-ceu.studyguide.timeedit.net/modules/RSP5018?type=COREOne way to relate to the intellectual origins of International Relations (IR) as a discipline is to consider the hopes that conflict and war-making can be prevented through a kind of "right" thinking about the reasons and origin of violence. If only we could understand what originates violence we might then intervene in time, before tragic manifestations such as destruction of human lives and of the material world that makes life possible. Politics indeed, as intellectual and political project, aims at preventing the spiraling down of human interaction into world-destroying violence. This course does not offer any such utopian hope - from thinking (in academic libraries) about violence to political or bureaucratic action as a kind of engineered response in view of the ultimate world peace. However, it does offer 10 episodes in which we can exercise our discernment as students and as citizens about the logic of violence as indeed manifested in forms of destruction of the livable world for human and more-than-human lives.
