Aim & Background

This course is designed for students in the 2-year MA programs towards the end of their first year in the program. The aim of the course is to help students to reflect further upon the proposed topic of their MA thesis and to guide them into informed and specific research preparation and design. The course addresses some of the major questions students need to settle in the process (and prepares them for further adaptation needs as might emerge during the research process), including:Moving from research theme and interest to formulating specific research objectives and research questions;Making informed decisions about research data and method(s), i.e., students receive support in how to create a reliable alignment between research objectives and questions, research data, and research method(s);Considering ethical questions.Students will be required to discuss course readings, their own research projects, and the research projects of their peers, and reflect in writing about their research project.
