https://at-ceu.studyguide.timeedit.net/modules/UGST4159?type=COREThis course offers an introduction to international relations. Focused on its core concepts, main theoretical frameworks, and key actors and institutions, the course brings theory into dialogue with practice, and helps students analyze and evaluate events and processes in the real world. By introducing concepts like power, statecraft, political economy, security, international law and global governance, the course examines how international relations has evolved over time and helps students to think about the recurring dilemmas of world politics: how does theory matter for practice? why is war a persistent feature of global (dis)order? how do politics shape the global economy and vice versa? can international cooperation solve collective action problems? what are the main global threats in the 21st century? is the international system undergoing fundamental change? By examining the historical, political, economic, and social forces that shape the global order, students will analyze the roles of actors and institutions and develop critical analytical skills to understand the complexities of international relations in the contemporary world.
