Aim & Background

This course provides students with an overview of political systems around the world. This is done with the help of Arend Lijphart's typology of consensus versus majoritarian democracy. The focus of the course is on the measurement of political institutions and the difference that institutional design makes. In the course, students will work together to create new knowledge, updating Lijphart's classic.
