Aim & Background

This course provides participants with in-depth knowledge and understanding of international investment law and arbitration. It covers three main areas: (1) the requirements that investments must meet to be protected under international investment agreements (IIAs); (2) the most important standards of protection contained in IIAs (expropriation, fair and equitable treatment, full protection and security, national treatment/MFN treatment, umbrella clauses); and (3) investor-state arbitration, with a focus on ICSID arbitration.
