It supplements topics covered in "Introduction to Econometrics" with the focus on credible separation of causal relationships in the data from mere correlations. The course provides background on issues that arise when analyzing non-experimental social science data, offers tools for causal inference and shows typical use cases from economics. We review the linear regression model and complement it with more advanced quantitative tools: the method of instrumental variables, regression discontinuity designs and difference in differences.
