Topics like injustice, poverty, inequality, and prejudice are often discussed as abstract concepts, but literature makes them tangible and human. Stories bring these issues to life, allowing us to engage with struggles faced by diverse groups worldwide. Through fiction, we bridge the gap between analysis and experience.We focus on three global challenges: Pandemics, Climate Change, and AI. This allows us to examine how social inequalities intersect and intensify during crises. We examine literature's power to address social issues. By reading various texts, we explore the emotions fiction evokes and how it reveals exploitative or oppressive structures. Our discussions will cover discrimination, environmental concerns, and the impact of Artificial Intelligence.The course functions as a workshop where students are encouraged to bring ideas and readings from other courses. We aim to enhance understanding of both primary texts and discussion topics. We will conduct close readings and incorporate concepts from literary criticism, philosophy, psychology, and sociology.
