Aim & Background

Gilbert Ryle is commonly identified with his work in The Concept of Mind, the text in which he gave his most sustained critique of mind-body dualism as a category mistake. This seminar focuses on other of Ryle's debates and disagreements with his contemporaries, both in and outside of the analytic tradition. The aim of the seminar is to give students a broad knowledge not only of the work of one of the 20th century's most prominent philosophers but also of a number of the central philosophical debates of the time.
