Aim & Background

This course will take us on a journey to delve into the process and peculiarities of digitization as the starting point for most digital humanities projects. When conceptualizing a DH project, one would -ideally- turn to openly accessible versions of digitized and machine-readable materials as the basis of further analysis. However, the actual procedure of digitization, despite its crucial role in the lifecycle of any DH initiative, is often less known to users. At the same time, digitization nowadays constitutes an essential part of most GLAM institutions engagements and is also often relevant to scholars who need to digitize materials on their own when encountering a lack of available sources for their research.
