    Aim & Background

Financial reporting constitutes the basis of economic decision-making; hence its importance cannot be underestimated. Reports are heavily regulated, yet their application requires a significant amount of judgement. Financial literacy underpins our well-being both in terms of financial health and wealth, the two being inseparable. Understanding financial reports and the underlying methods of preparation is crucial for both business and personal financial management. The course will assist you in making sure that you are equipped with the necessary skills to use financial reports for decision-making. I will also make sure you understand the limitations of relying solely on financial numbers, including the extended reporting requirements (e.g. ESG) for business and personal financial decisions.Financial reporting is a topical issue in current years especially since abuses and irregularities have highlighted its critical importance in organizational transparency. It has a major impact on the proper and appropriate functioning of the economy. Recent years have seen trends in its globalization. It has sparked vibrant debates on best practices and on the practicalities and possibility of using global accounting standards. The use of technology is exercising strong pressures on preparers and users to rely on systems. We will place a strong emphasis on the ethical implications of potential errors, whether caused by systems or people in financial reports on the wider user community.
