We begin with normative ethics, examining influential theories about what makes life go well and what makes actions right or wrong, including utilitarianism, Kantian deontology, and virtue ethics. We then turn to meta-ethics, investigating philosophical questions about the nature of morality itself: When can we be held responsible for our actions? Is there objective moral truth? How can we gain moral knowledge? Finally, we explore applied ethics, examining how philosophical theories provide insight into real-world moral problems.
