Aim & Background

The course provides an integrated introduction to energy systems, their technologies, and their role in global environmental change. It examines the fundamentals of contemporary energy technologies, the dynamics of technology transitions, and the global energy challenges of the 21st century - including economic development, energy access, security, climate change, and environmental/health impacts (as described in the course introduction). The course aims to equip students with the ability to understand, interpret, and critically evaluate how different energy technologies contribute to national and global energy transitions, and how these transitions interact with climate mitigation pathways and geopolitical contexts.
