Aim & Background

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is one of the world's most widely applied environmental policy instruments, used to ensure that proposed projects, plans, and programmes are examined for their likely environmental and social consequences before decisions are taken. This course introduces students to the purpose, rationale, and core proceduresof EIA and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). It equips students with conceptual foundations, practical tools, and critical perspectives to engage with EIA processes across different legal, institutional, and cultural contexts. The course integrates lectures, case discussions, and a practical group exercise to simulate real-world EIA practice.
