https://at-ceu.studyguide.timeedit.net/modules/ECBS5356?type=COREThis course covers the theoretical and empirical aspects of the Economics of the Public Sector and provides an overview of recent empirical research and the policy questions at stake. We focus on topics such as trends in global and national inequality, public goods provision, externalities, environmental regulation, and the optimal taxation of income, capital and wealth. The course assesses how the provision of public goods, taxes and regulation can address inequalities. It includes a discussion of environmental instruments such as green taxes, tradable emission permits and quotas, and explores how to raise revenue and redistribute at minimum efficiency cost. The course is intended for students who are comfortable with formal economic models and have a good understanding of the core methods in econometrics.
