https://at-ceu.studyguide.timeedit.net/modules/HISU6101?type=CORESummary: The study of history, like other disciplines, drives and is driven by public discussion, academic debates or, less so, by contestations between schools of thought and more inner-disciplinary debates about methods and approaches. One such example in which all three facets culminate was the German Historikerstreit in the 1980 and the current Historikerstreit 2.0. Another example of current issues are the discussions about the relevance of migration and mobility in society and repercussions thereof in scholarship - and vice versa. With the discovery of new sources and archives, with new actors and participants in research, and with changing political conditions and constellations, events and topoi of the past and present are never closed to historical research.Examining current issues in historical studies thus does not only serve the purpose to embark more fully onto the discipline. This course also provides an opportunity to position one's own research and place within broader debates and constellations as they relate to sources, methodologies, and the uses of the past. To this end, the seminar selects insightful and/or highly relevant examples from current issues dominating the field in research and teaching.
