    Aim & Background

In most courses, you receive either theoretical training (such as in Micro or Macro) or you learn about methods, such as econometrics or game theory. However, you do not necessarily learn about current issues in economics. That is what this course is about. We plan to cover several topics that are discussed in the current academic literature, in policy circles, and in the media. While all topics are related to economics, they often affect other aspects of society and/or academic disciplines as well. For example, climate change is not only an economic problem, but has important relations to biology, climate science, and politics, just to name a few.The intention behind this course is to develop not only your understanding of important challenges in today's society, but also to learn how to debate these controversial issues with respect and nuance. This is in contrast to the simplified black-and-white thinking and disrespect in much of today's public discourse.
