Comparative Case Study Research

Course

Description

https://at-ceu.studyguide.timeedit.net/modules/POLS5121?type=CORE

Aim & Background

The aim of this course is to familiarize students with some of the main approaches to doing case-based research, whether single case studies, paired comparisons, qualitative comparisons with a small number of cases, or mixed-methods. It covers cross-case and within-case analysis, X-based and Y-based studies, case-oriented and variable-oriented research. While the focus is on how to draw descriptive and causal inference based on systematic, mostly qualitative, empirical evidence, the course also engages with questions of ontology and epistemology, especially on the notion of causality.
