    Aim & Background

This course teaches the theory and practice of audio production and its relationship to other aspects of media production. Students will learn to employ audio as a creative tool for documentary or fictional storytelling, podcasting and artistic concepts like installations and other sound art. Class sessions combine lecture on relevant concepts, listening and analysis of sound examples, technical instruction on equipment, hands-on exercises, and critique of class projects and audio productions at each stage of completion. Outside of class students complete the final project, a 3-10 minutes soundscape, and prior to that two shorter projects exploring, a) podcasting and c) audio analysis. In these they develop specific production skills including recording, mixing and sound design.
