Aim & Background

In this course, we will discuss a number of issues in epistemology related to the issue of testimony and teaching and learning in general. First, we will ask if there are any kinds of knowledge which cannot be cpnveyed through testimony. It is sometimes assumed that all propositional knowledge can be conveyed through testimony, and it is argued that objectual and practical knowledge are non-propositional for this reason. We shall also look at the question of what non-testimonial teaching might be, at the possibility of moral testimony. We will ask if artificial agents can testify. In the last section of the course, we shall discuss issues about testimonial injustice.
